An orphaned baby skunk “Matilda”.
After her mom died, Matilda’s brother was found and taken to Coast & Canyon Wildlife Rehabilitation in Malibu, California for care. The following day, sweet little hungry Matilda was found wandering in the same yard looking for her family. Her finder said “all she wants to do is cuddle.” She’s now in an incubator at Coast & Canyon ~ safe, warm and snuggled up with her brother.

Honestly, I am so so so very glad there are people out there to take care of animals like this, especially since most are orphaned by humans in some way.

This is my second tattoo. I got it for two reasons that overlap a bit. First, the line “I’m with you in Rockland” is from the poem “Howl” by Allen Ginsberg. “Howl” is my favorite poem and reading it has helped me through some tough times. Second, Rockland, ME is one of my favorite places in the world, particularly the breakwater and lighthouse there. While the two Rocklands are not the same place, they both mean something to me.

Lyrics from the Postal Service - Such Great Heights.
When I was fifteen, I was infatuated with a girl for a couple of months, but she moved away. We kept in touch, and I introduced her to the Iron & Wine cover of this song, which she fell in love with. That Christmas, I asked for a guitar, and, without ever reading music or playing an instrument before, I set out to learn to play this song. Nothing else, just this song. For two months straight, day-in and day-out, I would play it, over and over again, until it was perfect. I’ve never had the chance to play it for her.
Without her, and without this song, I never would have learnt to play guitar, and I never would have started writing music. And without her, I never would have gone back to school, or gone on to university, or moved to London. I can’t even remember what it was like to not love her from a distance, and, to be honest, I’m not even sure if I still do, or if I ever truly did. But she looked completely and utterly perfect, from far away.
And she still does.
Awww. I love this - the tattoo and the story behind it. I firmly believe that every tattoo should have at least some sort of heartfelt story behind it. I can’t wait to get my next one.
